Today I received information from her Abdomianl Ultrasound with Doppler that was done on 2/14/08. The finding is as follows: The liver has a so-called transverse orentation, but is bulk is positioned in the left upper quardrant. The stomach is in the right upper quadrant. A normal appearing gallbladder is present & is on the right side. At least 3 separate splenic nodules are also located adjacent to the right stomach in the right upper quardrant. All 3 hepatic veins appert to drain into the right atrium & all contain normal waveforms w/Doppler. Branching of the portal vein is a bit unusual, but the portal venous waveforms are appropriate in shape & directions. There is an interruped IVC. A dominant, superior retroperitoneal vein hugs the vertebral column & sits immediately to the right of a relatively left sided abdominal aorta. This dominant vein represents the azygos vein (i.e. there is azygous continuation of an interrupted IVC). The pancreas was rather difficult to define, but I believe has a fairly normal appearance & position, with pacreatic head on the right and tail on the left.
Now doesn't all this information just makes your mind feel like it is going in circles. Chloe is built differently from other people and some how all this stuff she has going on manages to work together. She is like a rare diamond in the mix. You would think because she has 3 spleens they would all work at 100%. This may not be the case so that is why they call it funtional asplenia.
Here is a great website if ever you need to explain to your kids what an Abdominal Ultrasound is:

Chloe is schedule for upper GI on 3/21/08.
